Follicular Aspiration

Follicular Aspiration

Follicular Aspiration, commonly referred to as Oocyte Pick-Up (OPU) or Transvaginal Aspiration (TVA), is a sophisticated veterinary procedure designed to harvest oocytes from ovarian follicles. This technique uses a transvaginal ultrasound to guide the precise puncturing of follicles for oocyte retrieval.

During this procedure, a veterinarian carefully maneuvers the ovaries into an accessible position via rectal palpation and utilizes a specialized transvaginal probe to aspirate the follicles. Each visible follicle is then targeted and aspirated using an ultrasound-guided needle attached to the probe. This meticulous process is conducted on each ovary to ensure maximum oocyte recovery. Post-aspiration, the collected follicular fluid is transported to the laboratory, where it undergoes filtration. The oocytes are then isolated, cleansed, and prepared for their critical role in the Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) Laboratory.
